Supermarket spaghetti sex pest on trial

A repeat harasser will appear before the court today tried for sexual abuse of a minor in a supermarket, where he offered the invitation, “I’ll show you where the spaghetti is”, for whom the Prosecutor’s Office requests six years in prison for the defendant for attacking the victim and trying to kiss her on the mouth.

Almost a year ago, on September 26, 2022, around 1:00 p.m., a minor went to buy pasta at a supermarket near her home in Barcelona without realising that she was being followed. A man entered after her and followed her to the shelf where her pasta is located and touched her on the bottom. The minor got scared and went to the cashier to ask where the spaghetti was, to which the man responded: “I’ll show you where the spaghetti is.”

The man followed the girl again, who was under 14 years old at the time, when she went to the pasta section again to look for the spaghetti. There, the prosecutor highlights that the suspect “grabbed the minor by her waist and began to touch her genitals over her clothes”. She was very scared “and pushed his hand away from her” but “the accused, far from ceasing his efforts, tried to kiss her on the mouth.”

The victim fled towards the checkout area and asked a supermarket worker for help, the worker notified the police nearby and summoned their help. The Mossos d’Esquadra shortly after arrested the suspect who had “in the last month alone, four arrests for sexual crimes related to minors”, according to the Prosecutor’s Office. The man was placed in provisional prison on September 28, 2022. In addition to the prison sentence, the Public Prosecutor’s Office demands that he compensate the minor with 5,000 euro for the damage caused since she suffers from post-traumatic stress with fear of walking alone on the street and being close to men “who remind him of the situation she experienced.”

Also requested is 10 years of supervised release when released from prison, not being able to communicate or be close to the victim in the same period and disqualification from practicing a profession or volunteering related to minors. The trial takes place on Wednesday at the Barcelona Court.
