Gas imports decrease but imports from skyrocket despite sanctions

In January, natural gas imports into Spain decreased by 24.4% overall, compared to the same month of the previous year, 2022, standing at 25,862 GWh.

Algeria is the main supplier of natural gas to Spain (25.7% of the total), followed by the US (21.3%), Nigeria (20.8%) and Russia (19.2% of the total, although that represents an increase of 192% over January 2022).

As for exports, these grew by 103.7% compared to January 2022, standing at 7,409 GWh. France is the main destination for exports (42%), followed by Italy (24.7%).
