The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has activated the first phase to acquire the free Suburban, Rodalies and Media Distancia Conventional subscriptions as of August 24 and during the entire validity of the measure, until December 31, 2022.
Last week, the Government approved subsidising commuter and medium-distance rail transport to recurring users to help cope with the rise in prices as a result of the war in Ukraine, and to promote public transport and reduce the use of private vehicles, which will contribute to reducing our energy dependence and our carbon footprint.
Thus, users will be able to register on the Renfe and Renfe Cercanías mobile applications, as well as on the company’s website to speed up the obtaining of free subscriptions from next August 24, being valid between 1 September and December 31. In other words, once the prior registration has been made, travellers must purchase the season tickets through the apps or the website after the purchase period opens, at which time they will have to pay the corresponding deposits.
Although the subscriptions are free, it will be necessary to deposit 10 euro for each nucleus of Cercanías and Rodalies and 20 euro for each relationship (origin-destination) of the Conventional Medium Distance services. Renfe’s applications will allow their acquisition in a fast, simple and agile way.
Payment by card will allow the refund of the deposits to be made automatically (once the validity period has ended) fulfilling the conditions, that is, making 16 trips in these 4 months.
Passengers will be able to find all the information at renfe.com where the procedure for obtaining this new free multi-trip ticket will be explained step by step, as well as its conditions of use. Specifically, Renfe makes a specific page available to the public for each Cercanías nucleus.
QR Code for Commuters
The Renfe applications or apps will allow the acquisition of recurring Cercanías season tickets in a quick, simple and agile way, generating a QR code that will be downloaded to the mobile phone and that can later be used in station access control or in the vending machines and lockers to obtain the physical tickets that allow you to cross the turnstiles in the event that they do not have the QR reader installed.
In addition to the Renfe and Renfe Cercanías apps, this QR code can be obtained at self-service machines and ticket offices, although the use of digital platforms and payment by card is recommended to avoid unnecessary queues and speed up the return of the deposit. For the return of this it is necessary to keep the QR code during the entire period of validity of this.
Advance discounts of 50%
The Avant OSP (Public Service Obligation) services will have a 50% discount for recurring users, which applies to all Avant multi-trip tickets (Card Plus Pass, Card Plus 10 or Card Plus 10-45), which are sold between September 1 and December 31, 2022, with specific conditions of use adapted to the established bonus period.
Tickets sold previously whose trips are used during the period of validity of the discounts, may request a refund of 50% of each trip made in that period through the post-sale channels. Discounts for large families and other organisations will be applied after the 50% discount.
Subscriptions in high-speed services for recurring travellers
Between September 1 and December 31, 2022, new commercial passes are created with conditions similar to the Avant, for high-speed routes in which there are no OSP or Framework Agreements and the travel time is less than 100 minutes. These vouchers will have a 50% discount during their validity period.
The vouchers are applied on the following routes: Madrid-Palencia; Madrid-Zamora; León-Valladolid; León-Palencia; Burgos-Madrid; Burgos-Valladolid; Ourense-Zamora; Palencia-Valladolid; Huesca-Zaragoza; León-Segovia; Segovia-Zamora; Palencia-Segovia and Medina del Campo-Zamora.
