Diet Piggy Withdrawn After Backlash

The Toys ‘R’ Us chain of stores has removed from its catalogue a toy pig that was advertised intended for children from 8 to 11 years old, which is designed to help them comply with dieting restrictions.

The Diet Piggy product is a pink plastic pig described as a “fridge watchdog”, which is intended to be placed in the refrigerator and growls when the appliance door is opened.

A number of people took to social media to denounce the insensitivity of the product aimed at children, highlighting the dangers that children could face when tasked with such matters as dieting.

After hearing the criticism, the company has announced its withdrawal from the catalogue and has indicated that it was mislabelled and that it was actually aimed at adults, in its Kidults category.
