2022 the Year of Tourism Recovery

The Secretary of State for Tourism, Fernando Valdés, has highlighted his ambition that 2022 be “the year of the consolidation and recovery of the tourism sector in Spain”.

The statement was made during the presentation of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2022, which will be held from 19 to 23 of January in the Ifema Madrid, betting on the coexistence of tourism with the pandemic in its 42nd edition, according to its organisers.

Valdés stated that it is important to note that Fitur has been held in person throughout the pandemic, which “is an exercise of responsibility and commitment to tourism, an essential sector in the economy of Spain.”

“The celebration has a special meaning, since it is committed to the leadership of the Spanish tourism sector at an international level and speaks of Spain as a safe destination,” he added.

The fair will bring together a total of 6,933 participants with the presence of all the autonomous communities, companies and destinations from 107 countries, 70 of them with official international representation, led by the Dominican Republic, which this year participates as Fitur 2022 Partner Country.

Fitur 2022 continues the hybrid formula that complements the face-to-face participation of destinations and companies with a digital platform, so FiturLIVEconnect will be operational until 4 February.
