According to EFE, temperatures across the Valencian Community reached record highs on Sunday , especially in the provinces of Valencia and Alicante, where Xàtiva exceeded 40 degrees (40.2), with Polinyà del Xúquer (Valencia) was only half a degree behind (39.7).
In the city of Orihuela they peaked at 39.7 degrees on Sunday, also reaching 38 degrees in Novelda , 37 in Pinoso, 36.9 in Alcoi , and 35.4 in Elche.
In the city of Alicante, meanwhile, they were relatively chilly, peaking at just 31 degrees.
The city of Valencia saw it’s temperature reach 39 degrees this Sunday, the highest in the month of July for 12 years, since 39.5 degrees were recorded in 2009, according to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) .
However, the relative humidity rose to almost 60 percent, while at 5:00 p.m. it was just 15 percent.
The last occasion that Valencia saw 39 degrees was on July 23, 2009, and since then that temperature has only been exceeded five other times, most of them in August.
Specifically, on August 23 and 27, 2010 (40 and 43 degrees, respectively); on August 26, 2014 (41.6); on May 14, 2015 (42 degrees), and on August 9, 2019 (41.4 degrees).
Other Valencian towns where temperatures peaked 39 degrees in Ontinyent and the Manises airport; 38.4 in Llíria; 37.6 in Turís; 36.6 in Bicorp; 36.3 in Miramar, and 35.4 in Chelva.
