The Government of Portugal has announced that the border with Spain will be closed from Friday 29 January, for an initial period of two weeks, in an attempt to contain the expansion of the coronavirus pandemic, which has reached unprecedented levels in Portuguese territory during this month.

The Portuguese Minister of the Interior, Eduardo Cabrita, has announced the border closure at the end of the debate on the renewal of the state of emergency in the national Assembly.

The introduction the measure has all party support.
